Concussion Prevention

I am lucky and have never had a bad concussion.

I believe I have had my bell rung once or twice.

Having your bell run by the way is the slang term for an undiagnosed minor concussion.

Believe it or not, you can prevent this in the weight room.

You SHOULD be preventing this in the weight room.

People who are naive think contact is the reason. If this was the case helmet sports would never have concussions.

Now, those that understand the brain hitting the skull is the cause can still be naive and believe that less contact means less brain bashing.

Your neck muscles are the last line of defence in regards to contrecoup concussions. That is when the whiplash causes the brain to bash.

Simply Google “Banded Neck Flexion” & “Banded Neck Extension” & “Banded Neck Lateral/Side Flexion”.

You are welcome.

Now read a post from my IG and FB on this Topic.

If you have a band or even your own hands, go ahead and strengthen your scalenes, sternocleidomastoids, and suboccipital.

(This was a video of my guy who had a band around the base of his skull and forehead doing flexion and extension. Separate of course, not at the same time.)
